Commercial Flights Between US and Cuba Resume with JetBlue Operating the First Flight in 50 Years

The first regularly scheduled commercial flight between the United States and Cuba has landed at Abel Santamaría Airport in Santa Clara, a city in the middle of the Island nation Fort Lauderdale Airport in Florida.

Among the passengers in the Jet Blue 150-seat Airbus A320 were US Transportation Secretary (DOT) Anthony Foxx, Jet Blue CEO Robin Hayes news reporters and photographers.

In December last year the United States and Cuba agreed to restore scheduled commercial airline service between the two countries after decades of cold war animosity.

Besides Jet Blue the DOT has authorized five other airlines- American, Frontier, Silver Airways, Southwest and Sun Country to operate scheduled commercial flights to Cuba
